Megan Lynn Barnett, age 25, of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas, died Friday evening, December 15, 2006 near Columbia, Missouri.
She was born on May 11, 1981, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Mark I. and Marcia Lynn (Breithaupt) Barnett.
Megan moved to Manhattan at a young age where she attended public schools, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1999. While in high school she was a member of the Rowing Team. She continued her education at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Spanish and Pre-Physical Therapy. While at K.U. she played on the Women’s Lacrosse Team. Megan was currently a graduate student at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri where she was in the Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy. She was a hard worker in school and graduated magna cum laude from Kansas University.
Her memberships included the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.
Megan was preceded in death by her mother, Marcia Lynn Barnett in 1989, by her maternal and paternal grandparents and by an uncle, Charles Breithaupt.
She is survived by her father: Mark I. Brown-Barnett and her step-mother: The Rev. Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett of Manhattan. Also surviving is one brother: Dr. Chad Barnett and his wife Dr. Chris Barnett of Houston, Texas, a step-sister: Jenny Brecht and a step-brother: Paul Brecht, both of Manhattan. Step-grandparents: The Rev. Dr. Lloyd and Marilyn Brown of Silver Spring, MD, three aunts: Carol Barnett of Fresno, CA, Janet Breithaupt of Overland Park, KS, Donna Brown MacFarland of Silver Spring, MD and an uncle, Donald Breithaupt of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Greg Rosen, of Kansas City, MO.
Megan was a loving daughter, sister and granddaughter. She valued her circle of friends and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan with Reverend Jim Reed officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
