Michael Lee Smith
Michael Lee Smith, age 39, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Ogden, Kansas, died September 24, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born on July 26, 1970, in Wamego,
Kansas, the son of Deann Blankenship Smith and Eldon Leon Smith. Mike spent his first years in Alma and then moved to Ogden with his father where he attended Ogden Grade School and later Manhattan Middle School and Manhattan High School. Following his graduation he joined the United States Navy serving during the Persian Gulf Conflict. While he was in the Navy he met and married his wife Isobel from Devon, England. They later divorced and Mike returned to Kansas.
He enrolled in an accelerated two-year Computer Science Course where he graduated with honors from DeVry University in Kansas City. Mike was employed by Sprint and owned and rented property in Ogden and Kansas City.
Mike enjoyed fishing in his spare time and visiting with friends and relatives. He was a member of the Ogden American Legion.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Deann Blankenship Smith, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Blankenship of Alma, Kansas and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Smith and two uncles, Wayne and Gary Smith, all of Ogden, Kansas.
He is survived by his father, Leon Smith of Ogden, two half brothers, Tracey Amos of Alexandria, VA and David Smith who is currently serving with the Air Force in Shreveport, LA. Also surviving is one step-brother, Ken Upton of Manhattan, KS; two uncles, Larry Blankenship and wife of Topeka, Kansas and Sherman Smith and his wife Shelly of rural Junction City, KS; one aunt, Virginia Shepard and her husband Lewis of Ogden, KS, his stepmother, Margie Sawyer of White City, KS and numerous cousins and second cousins.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Military honors will be provided by The United States Navy.
