Allen A. Schwerdt
Allen A. Schwerdt, age 66, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
He was born on August 31, 1944, in Warrenton, Missouri the son of Alfred H. and June (Gutermuth) Schwerdt. Allen was raised in Manhattan where he attended local schools graduating from Manhattan High. He later took some courses at Kansas State University.
Allen was a self employed over the road truck driver for many years. In recent years he drove for several local businesses in the Manhattan area.
He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era for four years, and was a member of the American Legion and the N.R.A.
Allen was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, hunting and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events. He was a good person with a wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. Most of all he loved spending time with his family who deeply loved him.
On October 20, 2007, in Branson, Missouri, he was united in marriage to the former Lynn Kennedy. She survives of the home. Also surviving is one daughter: Sheri Saville and her husband Daniel of Meriden, Kansas and two step-daughters: Chrissy Arnold of Junction City, Kansas and Stephanie Heersink and her husband Jeffrey of Alta Vista, Kansas, his mother: June Schwerdt of Salina, Kansas, two brothers: Daryle Schwerdt and his wife Terri of Salina, Kansas and Ron Schwerdt and his wife Tonya of Manhattan and two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren also survive.
Allen was preceded in death by his father in 1994.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2010, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul J. Allen, IV officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
