Robert R. "Bob" Swenson

Robert R. Robert Richard Swenson, 76, was born November 28, 1940 to Walter Garfield and Twylah Marie Swenson in Lyons, Kansas and passed away October 31, 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Bob grew up on the family homestead south of Lyons and graduated from Lyons High School. Bob graduated from Kansas State University in May, 1963 with a degree in business.

He married Telva Marie Shamburg on June 23, 1963 in Manhattan.

Bob served as assistant Boy Scout leader of Troop 74 of the First Presbyterian Church, sang in the church choir for 52 years, and was a member of Masterworks Chorale. He was the youth minister at First Christian Church while in college. Served on the board of directors and as treasurer for the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at KSU for 54 years. Was a charter member of the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus, past president of the Central States District, served on the chapter officer training program for the International Barbershop Society and as a contest administrator on the Barbershop International judging program. Bob and Telva traveled many miles listening to Barbershop music and enjoying fellowship with many friends.

He worked for Central Life Insurance right after college, First National Bank and then opened his own business, Manhattan Data Systems, Inc., which he operated until 2017.

Bob and Telva had two children, Robert Brian Swenson and Beth Marie (Swenson) Marine. Brian had 3 children, Mason Robert Swenson, Vaylnn Ann-Marie Swenson and Brianna Rose-Marie Swenson. Beth has 2 children, Tucker Matthew Marine and Tyler Robert Marine.

Bob is survived by Telva, his loving wife of 54 years, daughter Beth (Swenson) Marine, son-in-law Matthew Marine, Kansas City, Kansas, sister Kathryn Kay Wilson (Fred), Manhattan, Brother-In-Law Lyle Brothers, Lyons, Kansas, grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Brian Swenson (2013), sister Patricia Ruth Brothers (2016), and brother Lyle Eugene Swenson (2001).

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11th, at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth St., Manhattan, KS, with Reverend R. Cam McConnell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, November 10th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
